Hello! I'm Attie Schuler and I'm a soon-to-be graduate at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design with a BFA in Illustration. I derive much of my creative inspiration by spending time outdoors. I moved to Colorado three years ago, admiring the western landscape, wildlife, and magnificent Rocky Mountains. Thankfully I currently reside within walking distance of these mountains.
My work experience includes teaching young children art, creating album cover-art for musicians, plus several murals scattered around the Denver and Indianapolis areas.
Artist Statement
I remember the first time I ever saw the sky turn a dark charcoal during the daytime. It was an early afternoon in the Midwest when a massive, black thunderstorm moved quickly in. I was as excited as the electric energy gathering outside the window. This experience, and other experiences like it, tied my emotions to nature. I’m Attie Schuler and as a professional illustrator interested in the natural world, I work to visually capture nature and understand my place in it.
By following a natural and exploratory theme in traditional and digital media, I illustrate with attention towards the way light affects a place, colors suggest emotion, and texture changes feeling. I hope to tell visual and scientific stories that provide relatability for all, but especially for those environmentally focused and interested in the natural world around us. I enjoy learning as well as the sharing of knowledge through environmental illustrations. My artwork is for curious beings.
